Homecoming Results

 

Homecoming 2006 has come and gone! It was a great week of activities and events that promote Broncho Pride! The Student Life office and the Homecoming Activities Board would like to recap the week's events:

Laff Olympics

400 in attendance

Game Show - The questions were focused on UCO/Oklahoma/Pop Culture

400 in attendance

$2500 in prizes

Student Life would like to thank John Strapizon for hosting the game show and Charles Lillard and the BCM for organizing the event

Talent Show

650 in attendance

14 performances

1st Place went to Kendra Oyesanya and Ray Brown representing BSA. They performed an amazing hip-hop dance.

Blood Drive

Student Life would like to thank the Oklahoma Blood Institute for partnering with UCO and Homecoming.

462 signed-in the give blood

368 pints were donated

Student Life would like to thank all faculty and staff who donated.

2nd Annual Unity Fest - a celebration of cultures through the arts and cuisine

The planning and preparation for this event was facilitated by the Diversity Round Table in the Multicultural Student Services Office.

700 in attendance

Here are some examples of the excellent cuisine: churros, ribs, fried chicken, chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, and sopapillas.

Bonfire - This event was for the football players to pep them up for the game.

400 in attendance

Student Life would like to thank the Football coaches and players who attended the bonfire.

Lunch on the Lake

Lunch was served to 200 students every day.

The food included popcorn, hotdogs, and nachos.

On Wednesday, there was a wheelchair simulation facilitated by Disability Services.

Homecoming Philanthropy

Student Life collaborated with the Edmond Hope Center to create a major philanthropy event

Student organizations donated over $10,000 in goods (cereal, shampoo, diapers, soap, macaroni and cheese, etc.) that benefit the greater UCO community and 30 UCO students each month.

Student Life would like to thank the Edmond Hope Center and all who donated goods.

Cheer and Dance Competition

850 in attendance

1st place-Sigma Kappa and Pi Kappa Alpha

Student Life would like to thank the UCO Cheer and Pom Squads and the UCO football team for their participation

Homecoming Concert

Included four bands: Lorene Drive, Madina Lake, The Auditions, and featured The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

3,000 estimated attendance - many of the people who attended were still in high schools from across the state. This was a great recruitment tool for UCO!

Inaugural 5K run/walk

27 participants

The route took the participants throughout the entire UCO campus.

Parade

3rd place: Baptist Collegiate Ministries

Parade Greek Division:

1st place: Sigma Kappa and Pi Kappa Alpha

Parade Community Division:

2nd place: Camp Fire USA

3rd place: Edmond Library

Student Organization Competition Winners:

Window Decorating: Alpha Xi Delta

Blood Drive: Alpha Gamma Delta

Philanthropy: Alpha Gamma Delta

Sandwich Board: Alpha Gamma Delta

Talent Show: Black Student Association

Cheer and Dance Competition: Sigma Kappa and Pi Kappa Alpha

Homecoming Overall Winners:

1st Place: Alpha Gamma Delta

2nd Place: Sigma Kappa

3rd Place: Pi Kappa Alpha

3-way tie for 4th place: Sigma Nu, Alpha Xi Delta, Kappa Sigma

Homecoming King: Nathan Woolard

Homecoming Queen: Destiny Harris

Office Decorating Contest

1st place: Max Chambers Library

2nd place: Enrollment Services

3rd place: Citizen's Bank of Edmond

Student Life and the Homecoming Activities Board would like to thank the 60 faculty and staff volunteers and the 20 faculty and staff judges who helped make Homecoming 2006: Game On such a great success. A big thank you goes out to the Alumni Association and the Alumni as well as all of the athletic department for all of your help. Student Life and Homecoming Activities Board would also like to thank everyone who came out and supported UCO at all of the week's events and the Homecoming football game.

T-shirts are still available for $5 in the Student Life Office NUC 424.
